Pharmacological Class
Inhibitors of alpha glucosidase. Acarbose acts by competitive inhibition of alpha-glucosidases, it thus reduces the degradation of carbohydrates into absorbable monosaccharides. Acarbose therefore decreases postprandial hyperglycaemia.
Indications
Treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes, in addition to the diet, as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic.
